Mark McNairy Woodland Camo Derby Lace-Ups

Mark McNairy is at it again with these camo lace-ups, which expertly blend the designer’s signature brand of irreverence with classic saddle detailing and impeccable English construction. Here, are four reasons behind the details that set them apart from the pack.

1. Woodland camo upper. Camo is a McNairy staple, but it’s rarely used as prominently—or effectively—on his footwear as it is here. Plus, the pattern is rendered on rugged ripstop cotton, so it’ll stand up to whatever abuse you can dole out.

2. Pebble grain leather saddle detail. What do you do to upend the preppy vibe so often associated with the saddle shoe? Cut the defining detail from richly textured black leather, one that reads more “night at the bar” than “day on the Cape.”

3. Goodyear welt construction. Long a hallmark of fine British shoemaking, it’s a standard feature on McNairy’s shoes and boots. Aside from the fact that you know they’re made with care, the Goodyear welt ensures that any cobbler worth his salt can easily replace the soles once you (finally) wear them down. Oh, and speaking of soles…

4. Gold happy face sole embossing. The designer’s other emblem of choice is a big ol’ “F*** Off” in flowing cursive, but the stamp on the sole of these kicks is a decidedly sunnier way to show them how you really feel.
