Coca-Cola Teams With Bathing Ape Creator NIGO for Retro Fashion Line

A Bathing Ape (also known as BAPE) creator Tomoaki Nagao (who’s also known  as NIGO®) has linked with Beams creative director Hiroshi Kubo to produce a limited-edition collection of retro-styled Coca-Cola vendor wear.

NIGO®’s newest label, Human Made, is inspired by pre-1960s Americana. He’s placed a huge emphasis quality and authenticity while still keeping a whimsical nature to the brand with the addition of lighthearted graphics provided by Sk8thing.

As an avid collector of vintage memorabilia, it’s a no brainer that a collaboration with Coca-Cola — ranked currently by Interbrand as the world’s best global brand  is a natural fit for both parties. In an interview, NIGO® reveals that he was once a Japan Coca-Cola yo-yo champion back in the ’80s and also pulled from his bespoke collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia to inspire this new line.

This is the second collaboration between Beams and Coca-Cola; an earlier effort celebrated Coca-Cola’s 125th birthday in 2011. Hiroshi Kubo tapped NIGO®’s Human Made and Coca-Cola to create this new classic apparel line.

NIGO® is no stranger to collaboration. The veteran’s monster line, A Bathing Ape, has collaborated with iconic brands like Pepsi, Disney and Adidas. This latest collaboration features a shop coat, coverall jackets, a work shirt, cap, jodhpur shorts, sweatshirts and t-shirts. Each item received weathered treatment and stitching that recalls the 1900s era.

As avid fans of the Bathing Ape line grew older, NIGO® created Mr. Bathing Ape to give them an updated look with a tint of BAPE. With Human Made, it’s apparent that he has returned things back to their roots, paying more attention to material and production of his garments. His collaboration with well-regarded vintage reproduction experts Warehouse is meant to ensure that quality is held to the highest levels and no detail of any garment is forgotten.

The Coca-Cola x HUMAN MADE x Beams collection will debut at Tokyo’s iconic boutique Beams.
